Mid January 2021

It is mid January and it has been two weeks since I last blogged. The weather has been kind of blah as we keep getting rain instead of snow. The landscape is a dreary brown and time seems to just drag. We are still self isolating and concerned about the new strains of COVID that are circulating. Next week we can sign up to get vaccinated. Even so it will be a few months before we can return to some sort of normalcy.

I’ve gotten 341 pictures to tell a story with. I don’t feel I am getting the pictures that I think I want. So I still lust over new tech. However my fundamental cheapness is an almost insurmountable obstacle. I also have the inkling that it is not the tech that is the limiting factor but the picture taker. In spite of it all I am still having fun.

BOIDS

Meg says I am a turkey and should include a picture of myself because over the past two weeks I haven’t taken any pictures of the turkeys. There are almost daily opportunities to get turkey pictures but the routineness of it is a stumbling block to picture taking.

When I am bored I often grab a camera and snap a few shots of the bird feeders. The light is often a problem here as the deck faces south and the birds tend to be backlit. So it tends to be easier the get good pictures on a cloudy day or in the latish afternoon. There are quite a few species that visit the feeders and we fill them a couple times a day.

The bluejays are interesting as they have a pouch in their neck and they pack it as full as they can and cart it off to store for a rainy day.

Mammals

The SQRLs are always ready for a free handout and are a constant pest at our bird feeders.

We have seen the deer a couple of times. Mostly at dawn or dusk.

We saw twelve deer at dusk but they wouldn’t cooperate and stand still for a picture. They also would not all get in a single picture at the same time.

Fun with Benji

If you think Mark’s life is tough, imagine what it is like to be Benji. There is so much to do and so little time to do it all.

Then there are four walks a day to keep my hoomans in shape, not to mention breakfast and dinner. So much to do and so little time.

Fun with Food

Self isolation can really put a crimp in the variety of foods we eat. We haven’t gone to a restaurant and have limited take out during the peak of the epidemic. So we are reduced to cooking for ourselves. It is easy to get into a rut and it takes effort to do something creative.

Breakfast is an easy meal. On Sundays we have pancake day. We have discovered we prefer waffles to pancakes. So we get a break from the routine once a week and it also helps us keep track of the day of the week as they all tend to blend together.

On Fridays we celebrate the end of the week with a mini BYOB just to keep the Moody Point Tradition alive until we can do it in person again.

So my blogging has slowed down with the winter doldrums. I have noticed that the days are growing longer and only the evening dog walk is now in the dark. So there is hope: spring is coming and vaccines are starting to roll out. It is still necessary to remain vigilant and continue to self isolate. We would like to expand our social circles as we are getting a little gruff with each other.

Stay safe.

  1. Thanks for all the fun pics. It’s been a long slog. Try not to despair. We’ll hopefully start seeing some light at the end of the tunnel soon. In the meanwhile keep walking & cooking & being kind to each other.
