Mark’s Fall 2022

We survived the day of the DEAD and it is already November. 2022 is sliding away from us. The first week of November was unseasonably warm and allowed us to get outside. Wink and a friend, MJ, went to Hampton Beach for a walk. Wink didn’t bring a hat and ended up getting a sunburn!

Kate-Lynne doesn’t have a classic fall in South Africa and wanted the full Fall Experience here.

We mulched the leaves in Meg’s front yard but built a pile of leaves in the back yard.

Kayak Adventure 18 – Last 2022 Fishing Trip

Andrew and I went out on the Lamprey River from the town landing and learned we did not have the right equipment to be successful fall fishermen. We would need a fish finder and different gear to catch inactive fish in deeper water. All we saw were some ducks, a turkey vulture and one turtle.

There were so many leaves in the river, it was like paddling through jello. The leaves interfered with both the paddles and the rudder.

Kayak Adventure 2022-19: Last Paddle

Kate-Lynne hadn’t made it out onto Great Bay and was game to try it out. So we launched from Chapmans Landing Boat Launch with the plan to go to Newmarket and back. We launched about two hours before high tide, so we were paddling against the current to move from Chapmans Landing to Great Bay. The temperature was seventy degrees and there was a gusty Southwest wind.

We didn’t make it to Newmarket. The incoming tide made it difficult to make headway on the river. We had never used Chapmans Landing before because we used the community dock directly on the bay, so I completely mis-guessed how far the landing was from the bay, The wind also created a bit of slop that we bounced around in in the kayaks.

We finally made it to the bay and Newmarket was still another two miles away. If we went to Newmarket, it would have been an eight mile trip with three of the two mile legs against the current. We decided to enjoy the bay and return to the landing without venturing into Newmarket.

We saw a few crows and there were some cormorants at the railroad bridge.

I tried to video the birds and decided to post the video to give an idea of how rough it was. There is not a lot of freeboard in these kayaks and the waves would wash over the bow.

Hosting an Outdoor BYOB

We had a busy social calendar this fall which included a birthday party, a fish grill and an open house at Meg’s. The final party we hosted was the weekly BYOB for Moody Point. Cally and Bill cooked more Striped Bass for the group. The weather was very cooperative and we all had a good time.

After a busy fall we are rapidly moving into the holiday season. Nights are chilly and we have been using our fireplace.
