Late July – SE (special edition)

I wasn’t planning to blog again until after the first of August. In fact I was wondering where new content would come from. I guess I needn’t have worried because two days later I had more than two hundred pictures and videos. Currently I have 382 for this blog, so it looks like another long one.

Turkeys

Looks like the turkeys have adopted us as home base. Tommy hangs around all day and the families come and go, starting and finishing the day in our yard. They all roost in the ash tree. We saw one family roosting in the ash and it was so cute we decided to take some pictures. Unfortunately mommy didn’t like us knowing where her babies sleep and we disturbed her wah. So she moved the babies before we could get the picture.

The babies are feeding at the scratch feeding area, which is where the bird feeders used to be.

Tommy is in the yard all day long.

Bird Watching

The birds continue to put on a good show.

Blue-Grey Gnatcatcher

We misidentified this bird as a nuthatch. A. Crawford identified it as a Blue-Grey Gnatcatcher. One clue is the white eye ring. This is a new species for us. Two in one day, amazing.

I have been having trouble identifying some of the female birds.

Fun with Food

Only a couple of days has passed, so not much has happened.

Leftovers for Lunch

I have already started accumulating pictures for the next blog. I sort of spent a day just taking pictures because of the craziness going on all around the yard. It can be fun to construct a blog when there is good content.

We are all well and plan to keep self isolating for the indeterminate future.

  1. I agree. Most female birds are difficult to i.d. You guys do such a great job carrying on with the birds! I love them all, but I am really curious about crows!! They can be characters and are trainable.
