The Great Debate – October 2022

It has been a warmer than usual fall. There are still brilliant colors around the bay, but fall it is.

Fall Color

People have been taking advantage of the warm weather.

Fall Sailing
Hard Frost

There was a sure sign of fall, the harbormaster pulled the channel markers.

Fall has Arrived
Cold Night, Warm Water

In this bucolic existence, what controversy could generate a GREAT DEBATE? It could only be, which is the best house? There are three homes up for debate in this season of all Hallows Eve: the white house at 27 Lubberland, their neighbors in the Brown House and the Green House at 18 Riverbend Road. We canvassed the both neighborhoods and are collocating our extensive research here.

First we asked the eagles for their input. Frankly, they were dismissive and indicated a perch over the bay was far superior to any house.

The turkeys have a definite opinion: which ever house that feeds them.

The crows have adopted 27 Lubberland as a daily stop over because they put out puppy chow as high protein crow food.

MMMMMMMMMMM Puppy Chow

The Koi and Goldfish were also canvassed. They complained that 27 Lubberland was not a safe place to live and that they spent most of their time hiding in fear.

There were other 27 Lubberland residents to canvass and they agreed that even though the food was good, it was a hazardous place to live.

Lunch Anybody?

It is difficult to see this as a rousing endorsement of 27 Lubberland. So maybe we should assess the competitors?

Neighbors: Brown House

We went to a neighborhood gathering last Friday night. It is difficult to tell if this was a representative gathering, but this is our only sample, so we will have to go with it. The evening started off innocuously with a small sacrifice:

Sacrifice – Fortunately these were just the low performing vassals

To get in, it was necessary to donate your dna?

Blood Draw

You need to understand that we live in Moody Point, Newmarket NH with all that implies. I feel this is a fairly representative sample of our neighborhood.

There was nothing negative said about the Brown House.

Green House

This is just a quick snapshot of events in the green house.

It was all Hallows Eve and the property needed to be warded against misfortune. So we got right to work creating the wards.

It was deemed ineffective to rely only on the wards, so we arranged to pay tribute as well.

Yes: Green House
Porous like Swiss Cheese

When polled, the children said the Green House because they gave full sized candy bars.

There was an even stronger endorsement from the adults because the Green House offered Tricks or Beer. Meg and Matt had to keep refilling the cooler. It seems Guinness was a big hit.

We next polled someone who was familiar with all three abodes, although someone rather food motivated; Benji.

Benji gets food and attention at all three houses.

It is hard to conduct an intensive investigation like this without proper resources. A significant endeavor such as this requires a large allocation of resources. Our investigators didn’t lack for food or drink.

We also polled the 27 Lubberland guardian, Cyrus/Cybil.

Cold Indifference Personified

Cybil was completely indifferent to this problem.

The judging was long and contentious. It was easy to eliminate 27 Lubberland from contention because of it’s inherent hazards. It is a scary place to live.

The final determination came down a fine point. Somehow the vassals registered a complaint before they were sacrificed thus giving an edge to the green house.

Wink and I were devastated coming in third of three. So we sulked and conspired to place better bribes next year,

Sulking by the Fire

We think we will appeal this result to the court of public opinion.
