So 2022 is half over. Time seems to be flying by. We seem to keep busy and are enjoying our summer.
Koi Pond Update
So the mud hole a.k.a. ‘Mark’s Folly’, has graduated to a Koi Pond in the blog report out. The birds are loving it and the SQRLs and groundhogs are taking advantage of it but there is no sign of the deer using it yet. It is easy to lose time by sitting down and watching the happenings.
Even the bees are getting water from the pond. This guy fell in but managed to swim to the edge and get out by himself.
We feed the feeder goldfish every other day.
Kayak Adventure 2022-10
We decided we needed a fifth kayak so the four of us and a guest could all go on an adventure as a group. We also realized we needed a better means of transport.
As soon as we got set up, we ended up with two guests. So we went down to the launch and grabbed the fishing kayak.
As you can see, we could load all eight of our kayaks if we used to the top rack. So we have room to grow.
We went back to the town launch hoping to see the otters again. But being the fourth of July weekend, there was too much human activity.
We are pleasantly surprised at how productive the fishery is. We enjoy the fishing.
We caught five bass over one pound, crappie and a couple of large yellow perch. It was an enjoyable paddle.
BOIDS
We have seen bluejays, catbirds, cardinals and robins on the blueberries. We’ll try to get more pictures. The berries are starting to ripen, but the birds aren’t fussy.
Mammals
The deer are walking out to eat seaweed to supplement their diet. The seaweed will have salt and minerals that they need.
Fun with Food
We celebrated Kate-Lynne’s birthday in style. We started the day with cinnamon rolls for breakfast.
Fun with Benji
It is greenhead fly season and we put the fly traps out.
So that is about all that is going on. We plan to range farther afield with the kayaks now that we have a trailer. The Koi Pond area plants are going in with some from our old garden which will be turned into lawn. We got almost an inch of rain last night which will help the plants settle in. Wink saw a fawn frolicking outside the kitchen window this morning. Hope to get a picture soon. Summer is good.
Mark, Wink, Meg and Kate-Lynne
Great-looking bass, Mark! Thanks for the welcome views into Newmarket life.
You should change your name to Captain Kayak.
