As part of our July vacation we drove to Provincetown to go whale watching on the Dolphin Fleet. We also grabbed lunch and did some shopping. It was a very pleasant day. Unfortunately there was a ninety case breakout of the Delta variant about the time we were there. We were fortunate that we had all been vaccinated and none of us showed signs of illness.
We planned our vacation around Bear Week in Provincetown. I enjoy the ambiance in Ptown and it is especially vibrant during Bear Week. Unfortunately this resulted in us being on the Cape earlier than usual. The result was that both the whale watching and saltwater fishing were as exciting as we hoped. There were whales but there were no interesting behaviors during our trip. We saw quite a few whales but all they were doing was diving and feeding. I guess we have been spoiled by our previous whale watching trips.
The cormorants congregate on the breakwater of the harbor.
We saw some pelagic birds.
We saw a gull grab a fish.
Its buddies saw this gull’s good fortune and decided that they deserved a share of the prize. The other gulls mobbed to poor bird.
The whale watching was interesting but unremarkable. The boat crew were able to identify at least seven individuals for their tale and fluke markings.
The Stellwagon Bank was congested as there were a lot of people out tuna fishing.
It was a good trip to Ptown and we were lucky we didn’t catch the Delta variant when were there.

Glad to see you didn’t get swept away by the hurricane.
