Winding Down Twenty-twenty

It is New Years Eve and I am winding down the year. This should be my final blog for2020. It has been quite a year and I am glad we are all alive and still healthy.

This Christmas I did better than usual. I looked into my stocking and it was all black. I thought that I got lumps of coal, the same as the past several years. I was pleasantly surprised to find out it was delicious black licorice.

Now to make everyone jealous, that is not all I got for Christmas. In fact this year I really made out like a bandit. I got a new pair of slippers.

Coddies, How cool is that?

Not only did I get new slippers but I got one pair of socks to go with them. The result is that 2020 was a really good year for Mark.

BOIDS

The turkeys are doing their dominance thing and strutting about the yard. It can be fun to watch.

I am working on the functionality of the blog. In the past the galleries have been static. Now if you click on the gallery picture, it should launch a slide show.

Turkeys

I spent some time in the time out chair and took some pictures of the visitors to the bird feeders. The Ruby Crowned Kinglet was still here and is likely extending its winter range a little.

Mammals

It is winter and the mammal activity has been winding down. We have only been seeing the deer at night. Most of the small mammals are sleeping in their dens. However the SQRLs are still being pests.

Fun with Food

We have been cooped up inside due to both COVID and weather. It is a good time to work on culinary skills. The Holiday season is an excuse to indulge and we availed ourselves of the opportunity. We only did two meals for Christmas similar to Thanksgiving. A brunch featuring cinnamon rolls. We failed to get a roast beast but did have a steak for the main meal..

We invited Larry for Christmas but we had too much food and so he contributed to Lobster Rolls later in the week.

Meg made Egg Bread for breakfast a couple of times. RECIPE HERE. She said it reminded her of a Korean Street food she liked.

We also did a couple of stir fry recipes.

The Christmas indulgence reminded us that we missed having comfort food like burgers and fries. After we created this indulgence we quickly realized what we liked was not having to do dishes.

So we seem to be getting by on the food front. We did manage to secure a beast for the New Year celebration.

Fun with Benji

Well that is it for 2020. Here is looking forward to 2021.

I am getting COVID fatigue and starting to talk about traveling again once we get a vaccine and it is safe to do so. In spite of the gilded cage, it can be challenging to maintain self isolation but it is more important than ever to do so. Stay healthy and safe.

  1. I sure am glad you invested in the new camera equipment. Those bird pictures are incredible! As usual, the food pictures made me hungry! You might have inspired me to make a stir-fry as well.
Happy New Year to you and the family. Here’s hoping we can get our BYOs back and COVID can be in the rearview mirror!
