Early September 2020

September has really gotten away from me. It is more than half over and I haven’t put out a blog. It isn’t as if there was a dearth of material to entertain folks with. And I can’t blame being lazy either. There is a lot going on here to get ready for fall/winter.

Reptiles & Amphibians

There are reptiles & amphibians in the yard. We don’t see them that often but they occasionally show up.

Boids

We are still seeing Tammy, the bearded female turkey with Avian Pox.

Mammals

We saw a doe and two fawns swim the Lamprey River at low tide and go ashore on the point.

Tom, Thomas and Fox

The male turkeys were not afraid of this fox.

Another Kayak Adventure

We took Benji kayaking again on a calmer day. This trip was more successful in that he didn’t try to walk on water this time. We got a little further and had an enjoyable paddle.

Going Kayaking
Benji in his Lifejacket

We only brought the little underwater camera with us. There was quite a wildlife show going on when we were out in the water. We agreed we would bring one of the Nikons with us next time in a dry bag and get better pictures. The thinking was if ‘sumtin’ happened to the camera, it would be a good excuse to upgrade.

The herons were calling along the shore. We also saw the turkey vultures but they were too far away to get pictures or properly identify. We saw Bruiser parked in a tree about one hundred yards from the point to the west. When she sits there we cant see her from our house. It was disappointing we didn’t have a real camera with us as we had multiple opportunities for picture taking.

Benji

Now that Benji knows his way to the kayak dock, he is ready to go.

Fun with Food

Disclaimer: Some people have noticed that Mark has lost a little weight, all I have to say for myself is that it is easy to do when you are reduced to eating Mark’s cooking as evidenced in these blogs.

Fresh Produce

Even hamburgers can be fun with a little creativity:

Delicious

I searched the internet for easy hamburger recipes. One that turned out well was Zucchini Burrito Bowls:

We only used about half of the stuffing. It was wonderful for leftovers, quesadillas and nachos.

Supreme Dessert

It is important to start the day with a healthy breakfast.

Lunch is usually a make your own affair around here, not an organized event.

We tried two different skillet meals with hamburger. I should have read deeper in the comments because they uniformly said you needed more spice.

Cookies
Chocolate Chip Cookie Cake

It is possible to have fun in the kitchen. We have been trying to be creative and make the best of the situation.

Fun with Benji

We are all currently healthy. We are staying busy with cooking, photography, yard work, exercise, reading and an occasional movie night. There don’t seem to be enough hours in the day.

Haircuts

We are not ready to go back to the hair stylists yet and our hair continues to grow. So we bought an electric razor and started practicing with it.
