Valley of the Kings Balloon Ride

We went on a two week trip to Egypt. One of the highlights was a balloon ride over the Valley of the Kings in Luxor, Egypt. These were the burial grounds of the Pharoahs of the New Kingdom period; 1550 to 1060 BCE. These were the 18th through the 20th dynasties. This period was considered the peak of ancient Egyptian civilization.

This was the first time I rode in a hot air balloon. We signed up for a sunrise balloon ride. This involved getting up at three AM, getting dressed and having caffeine and a light snack. We then took a boat ride across the Nile River and were picked up by the tour operator in vans and shuttled to the balloon launch point. Here are the intrepid (and sleepy) adventurers.

The hot air balloon basket will hold 24 people. We were lucky and were placed together in one corner of the balloon basket. The first step is to inflate the balloon with hot air.

Then we were herded onto the balloon basket.

What does up, must come down.

I would definitely do it again.
