We finally had some decent weather, mid sixties, light wind and sunny. So we decided to go on our first kayak of 2025. Instead of fishing gear, I took the old Nikon P900 and documented the event. We were looking for wildlife on the river.

After launching the kayaks, we headed east to the falls along Packers Falls Road. I was hoping to see the otters again this year, but we didn’t.

When we passed under the railroad bridge, we heard a splash but didn’t see what caused it. We did see herons on the way to the falls.

We made it to the falls.

On the way back we saw some fish crows. They are a little bit smaller than the American Crow and have a distinctive call. I tried to video the crows to record their call but failed.

A little further along we bumped into so aquatic mammals. We think they were beaver but we are not certain.

After exploring the Piscassic River, we headed into the Lamprey River.

We did have an Osprey fly over us carrying a snack. It landed on a utility pole.

It was a Monday evening so we went to The Oak House to celebrate getting out on the water.

It was a pleasant day.

We thoroughly enjoyed your local adventure. Thank you for sending it along. We think the answer to your question was a beaver or a muskrat.
Happy kayaking to you and Andrew.
