Mid July 2022

July is Greenhead time. They leave a nasty bite when they get you. Some sort of remediation is necessary.

Greenhead Trap – Remediation

The greenhead traps work well to help control their numbers around the entrance to the house.

Mark’s “Folly”

The level of effort on Mark’s Folly is winding down. It is holding water. The pump is circulating the water into both waterfalls. It makes a pleasant rushing sound as the water circulates. It is very soothing. The plants are in. There are still quite a few finishing touches to go, but the majority of the effort is complete. It is acting as it’s own private ecosystem. Five actual Koi have been added to supplement the 41 goldfish that were already in the pond.

Mark’s “Folly”

We need to feed the fish every other day.

The frogs have been busy and are filling the pond with tadpoles.

The frogs would eat the goldfish if they get a chance. I guess I should have paid for bigger goldfish. Not to pass up on a snack, the birds will eat the tadpoles if they can catch them. We have seen the Robins going after tadpoles.

The hummingbirds have found the flowers.

The pond is becoming a destination in its own right.

So it is coming along. It is easy to sit and be mesmerized by the all the activity in the pond.

BOIDS

The pond has done nothing to diminish the bird activity in the bay yard.

Osprey on the Point

We still see adult turkeys on occasion but I suspect there has been to much activity in our bay yard to attract the momma turkeys.

Mammals

Andrew’s kitty cat is still around.

I would like to introduce Miss Veal Scallopini.

Kayak Adventure 2022-11,12

We had a mishap and Kate-Lynne sprained her ankle, so she and Meg weren’t available for adventuring. So Andrew and Mark watched Utube videos and worked on refining their fishing techniques. They went back to the usual place and played with their new gear. There is still opportunity for further refinement.

This next mammal is a candidate for the previous unidentified swimming mammal.

Momma and Babe

Momma slapped her tail and everybody dove, Yep, it’s a beaver family.

Tail Slap and Dive
Beaver

We enjoyed the scenery and occasionally caught a fish.

Fun with Food

Fun with Benji

We plan to go to a fishing store and get some more new toys to try. I bought a new cheap waterproof camera so I could more fully participated in the kayak adventure pictures. I had been using my phone but got nervous every time I took it out to get a picture. I also ordered a kayak mount for the camera. Maybe we’ll get some more action shots.
