Italian Vacation – Villa Ada

When we were planning our vacation, we decided we wanted to go back to Herculaneum and Pompeii, thus making a stay in Sorrento desirable.. Five years ago we stayed at Villa Ada and really enjoyed it. So we planned our vacation around the week that the Villa was available to us. There are plusses and minuses to staying up the hill in Sorrento, especially the lack of parking in town. On balance we felt the plusses outweighed the minuses. Hopefully I can share some of the things we like about the villa.

So we picked up a car at the Naples airport and drove to the Villa. We needed a car big enough to comfortably handle four people and luggage for a ten day stay in Italy. We ended up with a minivan that was just a little too large to comfortably navigate DWI (driving while Italian). Unlike last time, we managed to return the car with both outside rearview mirrors attached.

The Villa is situated up a hill from Sorrento and is in the middle of an orchard of olive and citrus trees. It is a very quiet and peaceful setting.

Villa Entrance

You enter the Villa into a grand dining room.

Dining Room – aka Vacation Headquarters

Passing through the dining room is a sitting room.

Sitting Room

Passing through the sitting room takes you out onto the patio. It is one the of the highlights of the villa.

The Grand Hotel Presidente is in the foreground and is just below the villa. It is a landmark we used for navigation.

The weather was nice but hazy and so we were able to make good use of the patio.

Enjoying the Patio

Completing the first floor was a kitchen, pantry and bathroom. It had a washing machine and clothes were hung out to dry on drying racks upstairs.

First Floor Lav with Shower

The bedrooms, a second bath and another patio were upstairs.

Mark’s blog wouldn’t be complete without sharing some culinary information. Italian cuisine is made from fresh and local foods. We enjoyed every meal. I could get by on a Mediterranean Diet.

We had visited Villa Ada five years ago and I did a blog about it: https://mmoeller.blog/2017/04/30/villa-ada/. One of the things we did different this time was to take advantage of the amenities at the Grand Hotel Presidente. When we didn’t feel like cooking, we could just head down to the hotel and eat at the main dining room or the poolside bar. Mark might have had a drink there as well

Staying at Villa Ada again certainly met my expectations and I feel the plusses outweigh the minuses. I enjoyed it very much

Adieu Ada

  1. Shame that you had to suffer that view. Broad ocean front occluded by a pike of rock? It’s good of you to support the economy of such an undesirable local
