Middling January 2022

I didn’t intend to blog this soon but have enough stuff for a blog and so here we go.

Our snow is basically gone, but before it went we had some really cold and windy days and nights. Benji is not a fan of the cold, For awhile he refused to go out and poop. Unfortunately for him there is only so long one can hold out, and the cold snap was longer than that. Poor doggy. A Nor’easter closely followed the cold snap so the winds were unrelenting. We were on the rain side of the event and it cleaned up most of our snow. The low pressure from the storm seems to have contributed to some rather high ides here. We think this was the highest tide we have seen since we moved here.

BOIDS

The juvenile red tailed hawk has been hanging around.

Meg was away for a few days during the cold spell, so I went over to her house to feed her birds. I took a couple pictures while I was there.

Meanwhile on the home front:

We put out dog food for the crows. They usually stop by around eight AM for breakfast. Recently the turkeys and starlings have figured out dog food is delicious and are causing trouble for the crows.

Mammals

Meg got home and observed some deer bedding down in her yard. Deer pictures were taken by Meg

Fun with Food

It is important to start the day with a healthy breakfast. For us it can range from bacon and eggs to oatmeal to pancakes. We usually do pancakes on Sunday. I was planning to make breakfast burritos with sausage, egg and potatoes but had a rebellion. Since I had already mashed the potatoes, they became potato pancakes.

We had another PIZZA day. I think we will have a PIZZA party soon as we are comfortable with the COVID situation. We will invite some people who are known to be PIZZA chefs and kick it up another notch.

We had leftover pizza dough and needed to use it up. So we made calzones for lunch:

The Omicron variant is pushing us back into self isolation. It is discouraging to withdraw from society and be limited by the pandemic. The Faux Winter weather doesn’t help. The storms and cold are keeping us inside without the benefit of winter recreation. I think most would prefer snow to freezing rain.

We are having fun with our bird watching, cooking and Benji is keeping us active. Even if he doesn’t want to, he still has to go out.

All for this middling January report.
