Early December 2021

It is the second week of December 2021. We have all been vaccinated and had our boosters. The Omicron variant is on the horizon. This recovery seems to be stretching on and on.

We are getting ready for Winter Solstice. We have adorned our Living Room with a Solstice Tree as per the customs of the ancient druids.

The problem with a Solstice Tree is that it attracts vagrants.

Tis the SEASON!

My Sentiments Exactly

We actually got our Solstice cards printed and produced the address labels. Now we have to get them personalized and sent out.

BOIDS

I am still not taking pictures of the songbirds. I expect when it snows I will snap a few pictures. For now I only take pictures when something interesting happens.

FUN

Ordinarily this section would be Fun with Food but today it is generalized to just FUN. We planned a trip to New York City to take in some Broadway and Off Broadway shows. Meg and I planned the trip before Omicron appeared on the horizon. Unfortunately most of our tickets were nonrefundable. After some consideration we decided to go on the trip. In New York you had to wear masks and show proof of vaccination to enter the venues (theater and restaurants). Even so it seemed like a super spreader event on the streets. We risked it.

Our first choice of transit was the C&J bus to New York but it was fully booked for the trip we wanted. So on a lark, we booked a first class ticket on Amtrak to NY. The cost was similar to a plane ticket but we did it for the experience. We got a bus ride to South Station and holed up in the First Class lounge until departure time.

Lunch

We walked from the train terminal to our hotel on 8th avenue near time square. We rested up and grabbed a quick dinner before we were off to BOOK of Mormon.

For breakfast we went in search of bagel sandwiches.

The next show was a Matinee of ‘To Kill a Mockingbird’ with Jeff Daniels.

Since we had a free evening, we got a fancy meal.

The final show was ‘Little Shop of Horrors.’

We had great seats for all three shows. Each show was very different from one another but very enjoyable.

On our final day in NY we took the subway to the Natural History Museum and walked back.

We had one last adventure that evening. We went to the Dim Sum Palace and it did not disappoint.

We took the C&J bus home the next morning.

To celebrate we went out for Mexican food at La Catrina.

So as usual, it is a calm quiet December here in the Moeller household.
