I hadn’t planned on doing a blog until after Valentines Day. This week seems to be a week where not much goes as I planned. It is cold with off and on snow showers that keep me busy plowing the driveway. It was cold enough that even the dog didn’t want to go on a walk and turned for home as soon as his business was done. Right now it looks like we will get another foot plus of snow next week.
Wink calls 27 Lubberland my farm, others call it my private nature preserve. Either way , it does provide nearly endless entertainment for us and the dog. We keep cameras at ready in case something noteworthy happens. You can never tell for sure.
BOIDS
We fill the feeders in the yard once a day. We tend to refill the feeders on the porch two or three times a day. It is really cold and the birds are hungry. We also maintain two heated bird baths. There is also the spring in the yard. The snow keeps a record of what’s happening and can provide clues about the wildlife in the yard.
Life for the smaller birds in our yard can be tough. They are hunted from above.
The small birds and animals are also hunted from the ground.
How do we know it was a fox?
The little birds have to compete with the bigger birds for food as well. When the turkeys come they take over the scratch food on the ground under the yard feeders. We also hang corn on a bungee for the SQRLS. I recently moved the feeder higher to keep it away from the turkeys. The snow pack undid that effort and the turkeys got a lift from the ground.
Fun with Benji
Benji gets four walks a day, morning, noon, afternoon and evening. In good weather, which we have not had recently, the long walks are morning and evening. Since he is not getting his long walks in, we have started taking him on longer noon walks.
Fun with Food
I will let the pictures tell the story.
Bacon Pepper, Onion, Mushroom Cheese Burger Broil Done Taters Grease Season Plate
We are still self isolating but are scheduled to get our second shots next week. It will be a busy week for us with Valentines Day, shots, Benji grooming and Mark’s birthday to go with over a foot of snow expected. It seems like all that will provide some material for another blog.
Stay safe, stay well.
Mark, Wink and Meg
Happy Birthday, Mark & Happy Valentine’s Day to All! That fox looks very healthy which is a nice thing to see. The photo titled “Story in the Snow” is a great shot but a sad story…all in the cycle of nature, however, even though we humans have done our share of disturbing things. Take good care. Don’t get too cavalier now that you’re vaccinated!!! Who asked me, right?
Great birds photos!
Thanks for sending! Very enjoyable read. Love the photos!
The shot of the Goldfinch is special! Harbingers of spring?
Happy birthday Mark, we suspect it will be a pleasant diversion from the weather and pandemic!
