Late June 2020

We have been trying to maintain a fairly strict self isolation. We either quarantine or clean everything that comes into the house. We haven’t been to the store yet, ordering everything from instacart or the farmers markets and have it delivered to the house. We have not ordered carry out food yet. With New Hampshire slowly opening, we plan to ease up a little and occasionally get carry out food and pick up from a grocery store. We did have Benji groomed but he was miserable with a heavy fur coat in the current heat wave. we plan to keep an eye on things and gradually ease our isolation.

I try to have fun with the blog, NEHiN (nuttin evah happens in NewMahket) and ‘Hot Chicks in the Bath.’ I also enjoy cooking and documenting my efforts. You might wonder if I have something better to do with my time? Spending time with the dog helps keep me busy. I have yard work to do, but the heat and bugs are pretty bad right now. I enjoy the photography and have fun putting the blogs together. I try to share how incredible it is to live here in Moody Point with all the wild life that inhabits the land around us. It is just fun to document all the craziness.

These are unprecedented times and there is no clear outcome or end of this turmoil. It seems like a second wave is not unlikely and this could drag on the rest of the year and beyond. We continue to muddle along. It is my hope to share a little levity with my readers. So it is time to get back to the main purpose of this blog:

‘Nuttin Evah Happens in NewMahket’

It is remarkable how rapidly ‘nuttin’ ever happens here.

This deer is so covered with flies, it looks like she is just giving up. The reason I think it is flies and not ticks is that they don’t persist on other deer pictures. Good thing they have tough hides.

Meg made us an apple pie and I tossed the cores into the yard. At dusk a pair of foxes came and ate the apple cores. One shortcoming of our cameras is that they are not very good in low light situations. But it was fun to watch. A doe came along and got an apple core or two as well.

‘Hot Chicks in a Bath’

I confess, I moved a chair to the front door so I could stalk the hot chicks in a bath. I haven’t set up a tripod and at this point am not sure I will. I switched the upstairs and downstairs cameras midway through this foto taking period. The bigger camera will shoot high def video for your viewing pleasure. So do I have better things to do with my time? Yes probably, but right now fotoing ‘hot chicks in a bath’ is higher priority.

We moved an older birdbath from the lower garden to the front patio and put a bubblier in it. This is supposed to attract the hummingbirds.

Having Benji with us has been a real blessing during this time of self isolation. He constantly brings a smile to my face. He also makes sure I get my walks in regardless of the weather.

FOOD PORN

You can find the history of food porn on Wikipedia (LINK HERE). There is also a subreddit /r/foodporn to browse for inspiration. Whenever I create something eatable we say “Mark can cook!” I take pictures of the efforts and text them to my family just to stir the pot. There are some extraordinary chefs in my family including my brother Rod, sister-in-law Susan and brothers-in-law Kevin, Patrick and Steve. It is enjoyable to see what they are creating on the family text thread. There might be a little competitive spirit, but that is just spice to the stew. So most of the food pictures are taken using the phone’s camera. These pictures are in the spirit of fun and one upmanship inherent to family dynamics.

Not all our efforts are special, sometimes we take pictures of the mundane.

It is important to find some ‘Joie de vivre’ in our lives. This blog tries to share some of ours.

Stay safe and well.
