I think this time of year is one of my favorites. The daffodils are blooming and the yard is greening up and the migrating birds are starting to arrive. Most of the new arrivals came on Cinco de Mayo and have been very active since.
There is finally abundant food for the deer. They have been very harsh on our vegetation, eating things that they haven’t bothered in the past.

The goldfinches have changed to their summer colors. This seems a little early to me.

In a Moody Point moment, we watched a coyote swim across the Lamprey River at low tide. Got some pictures and video of it as well.
The orioles have really been a delight. We have both the Orchard Oriole (small dark orange) and Baltimore Oriole (bright orange). The first year birds are different colors than the adults. It just a big splash of color at the feeders.

There has been a battle royale over the oriole feeder. It has been very entertaining to watch.
I promised to grill for mother’s day. We finally got some good weather and I decided to fix the grill which was not burning correctly. It turns out the grill had rotted out, both the burner and the grill wall, so it was not repairable. So we went out and bought a new grill the day before mother’s day.
Spring is one of my favorite times in NewMahket, where nuttin evah happens.
