I got a chance to play with my new camera, a Nikon P1000. I spent time reading the reviews and reading the manuals. It will take awhile to learn to use it properly. The reviews were not necessarily kind to the camera. It is big and heavy and therefore hard to hold steady. Because its sensor is small, it requires a lot of light to get great pictures. I will also have to acquire a heavy duty tripod to hold it steady enough for the long range pictures. Because of these limitations, this becomes a niche camera. But my use of the camera in NewMahket where nuttin evah happens is the perfect niche for this camera. There will be a learning curve associated with this camera but here are some learning pictures. It has been rainy and overcast here for awhile. Not ideal conditions for this camera.
Rose Breasted Nuthatch and Nuthatch
The rose breasted nuthatch has showed up again. It seems just a little smaller than the regular nuthatch. They are also very timid and hard to photograph.
Rose Breasted Nuthatch
The turkeys are still around.
We are routinely seeing turkeys. The four Toms are hanging around the yard and are getting used to being around us. They are not afraid of us. Unfortunately, one of them has learned to eat at the deck bird feeder and he can empty it pretty quickly. He also leaves presents for Wink on the deck.
We added mealworms to our seed mix. This is the first time we seen them this fall but they flocked to the feeder. We are on the northern edge of their winter range.
Happiness Is!
Titmouse
We went as pirates for Halloween Party. A good time was had by all.
Party
I am having fun with the new camera but I am not achieving the results the camera or I am capable of. The pictures are not as sharp as I would like and do not blow up well. I plan to keep taking pictures and learning as I go.
Next blogs will be another construction update and some vacation blogs.
Mark and Wink
I love the composition of the heron! The littler birds are great pics. Once wink said a big turkey came in the sect, I was HOPING I’d see a pic! Thanks!!!!
