We decided to take a day off and go on a whale watching tour out of Rye Harbor with Granite State Whale Watch. The day had a slight overcast and the night before a storm blew through the area. As a result, the morning was slightly rougher than the afternoon.

We got there and exchanged our voucher for tickets right as the passengers were embarking. There were six of us on the cruise…

The Harbor

We sailed out of Rye Harbor past Isles of Shoals headed to the Jeffrey’s Ledge. It was a bit sloppy at this point but I tried to take pictures anyway.

We saw more than eleven humpback whales, one minke whale (no picture), two harbor seals and a large pod of white sided dolphins. We saw numerous sea birds including gulls and gannet. I took about 350 pictures on this trip, some better than others.

There were numerous boats fishing for blue-fin tuna on the Jeffrey’s ledge. The tuna can be quite valuable if caught.
